AI and Digital Society
Artificial intelligence: the engine of the digital society
Hardly any technology shapes the digital society as strongly as artificial intelligence (AI). What sounded like science fiction a few years ago is now an integral part of many workflows — from automatic text creation and intelligent chatbots to detecting cyber threats in real time. For companies of every size, the question is no longer whether AI will become relevant, but how it can be used sensibly and securely.
Artificial intelligence refers to systems that recognize patterns on the basis of large amounts of data, learn relationships and, building on that, make decisions or generate content. The foundation is usually machine learning: algorithms are trained with data to make predictions on their own, understand texts or recognize images — without humans having to program every single rule. Generative AI, as used in modern language models, goes one step further and creates new texts, images or code on its own.
How artificial intelligence is already used today
Customer service and communication – chatbots and virtual assistants answer standard inquiries around the clock, relieve support teams and ensure faster response times for customer concerns.
Automation of routine tasks – invoice checking, email sorting, scheduling or the evaluation of forms can be noticeably accelerated and freed from errors with AI-supported tools.
Data analysis and decision support – AI detects trends and anomalies in large amounts of data that would otherwise go unnoticed in day-to-day business, thereby providing a sound basis for business decisions.
Texts, images and marketing content – generative AI helps with creating drafts for texts, presentations or graphics and thus speeds up creative processes, without replacing the human as the reviewing authority.
IT security – modern security solutions use AI to detect suspicious patterns in network traffic and identify attacks early, before greater damage occurs.
Why artificial intelligence is becoming more important for companies
Companies that use AI in a targeted way gain above all one thing: time. Routine tasks are completed faster, employees can concentrate on more demanding, value-adding tasks, and processes become more traceable and consistent. At the same time, AI changes how customers expect service — fast, uncomplicated and available at any time. Those who do not keep up lose competitiveness in the long run.
Keeping opportunities and risks in view
As great as the opportunities are, a responsible approach to artificial intelligence is just as important. AI systems can make mistakes, misrepresent content or reach wrong conclusions based on incomplete data — human oversight therefore remains indispensable. Data protection questions also arise: if sensitive company or customer data is entered into an AI application, it must be clear where this data is processed and stored. Not every AI service is automatically GDPR-compliant.
Dependence on individual providers and the question of how transparently AI decisions can be traced should also be considered at introduction. A well-thought-out concept ensures that AI serves as a tool — and does not become an uncontrolled risk.
Our approach: integrating AI sensibly and securely
As an IT partner, Tucana supports companies in using artificial intelligence where it brings real added value — starting with advice on suitable tools, through data-protection-compliant integration into existing IT infrastructures, to ongoing support. It is important to us that new technologies are not introduced at the expense of data protection and IT security, but that both go hand in hand.
In the following we show how digitalization as a whole affects companies — artificial intelligence is a central, but not the only, building block of the digital society.
Digital society — how digitalization shapes companies today
“Digital society” describes a society in which digital technologies permeate almost every area of life and work: communication via social media and messengers, online banking and digital payment, home office and location-independent collaboration, online shopping, digital public services, artificial intelligence as well as data protection and cyber security.
For companies this is not an abstract trend but daily practice: employees work on the road or from home, customer data lives in the cloud instead of the filing cabinet, communication runs via chat and video call instead of only the landline. Each of these changes brings new opportunities — and new requirements for security, availability and compliance.
What this means in concrete terms
Location-independent working — home office and mobile working need reliable, secure access to company data from anywhere. Our cloud systems and IP telephony make sure your team stays reachable and able to work, no matter from where.
Digital communication — email, chat and video telephony increasingly replace the classic phone call. We bring these channels together securely and in a GDPR-compliant way, including complete email archiving.
Growing attack surface — the more devices, access points and cloud services are in use, the more important firewalls, spam and virus protection and regular backups become. Digitalization without IT security is an open barn door.
Data protection as a foundation, not an obstacle — GDPR-compliant archiving and your own, controlled cloud solutions (instead of third-party providers such as Dropbox) give you back control over your data.
We accompany you through this change — from consulting to the ongoing support of your digital infrastructure.
